ATV, UTV & Off-road Vehicles
An off-road vehicle is considered to be any type of vehicle which is capable of driving on and off paved or gravel surface. It is generally characterized by having large tires with deep, open treads, a flexible suspension, and a rigid, durable body. Other vehicles that do not travel on public streets or highways are also generally termed off-highway vehicles.
ATV or All-Terrain-Vehicle is a vehicle that is designed to handle a wide variety of terrain. ATV is also known as Quad Bike, four-wheeler, three-wheeler or quadricycle. It has low-pressure tyres to provide a bigger contact patch and an easier deforming to the shape of the ground for better traction. By definition, it has a seat that is straddled by the operator, along with handlebars for steering control. The term "ATV" was originally coined in the 20th Century to refer to non-straddle ridden six-wheeled amphibious ATVs such as the Amphicat produced by Mobility Unlimited Inc.
A utility vehicle is a motorized transport, that is designed to carry out a specific task with more capabilities than a general-purpose vehicle. It commonly refers to a truck with low sides. A jeep is a type of light utility vehicle, originally used by the military, with four-wheel drive for travelling over rough terrain.
