Audi is a German based sport automotive manufacturer with the most mutli-faceted stories ever told in the history of automobiles. The company’s rich history began in 1899 when founder August Horch founded Horch & Cie in Cologne. But due to differences with the board members, August left and founded another automotive company. As his surname was already in used in the prior firm, he chose it’s Latin translation, ‘Audi’ which literally translates to ‘Listen’.
The four rings on the Audi Emblem represents one of Germany’s oldest established automobile group. It symbolizes the union of previously independent motor-vehicle manufacturers: Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer. Auto Union GmbH was established in Ingolstadt on September 3rd, 1949. These companies form what is today known as AUDI AG.
Audi is currently part of the Volkswagen Group, offering a full lineup of upmarket vehicles with notable performance. It is especially known for its Quattro all-wheel drive system, among other cutting-edge technologies. Its primary competitors are German luxury automakers, Mercedes-Benz and BMW, also Japanese luxury brands such as Acura, Lexus, and Infiniti.
The German automaker fares well in World Report’s new car rankings, taking the top spots in multiple categories. Audi offers dynamic vehicles, with features and quality comparable to its top rivals, often at a more competitive price point than that of its German competitors.
