DAF Trucks

DAF Trucks NV is a Netherland based company producing trucks. It’s a division of PACCAR and is headquartered in Eindhoven, Netherlands. The company’s origins can be traced back to 1928, when Hubert "Hub" van Doorne founded the company as Commanditaire Vennootschap Hub van Doorne's Machinefabriek. In 1932, the company changed its name to Van Doorne's Aanhangwagen Fabriek (Van Doorne's Trailer Factory), abbreviated to DAF.

DAF vehicles had the image of being slow. The company tried to change this image with entries in rallies and races, such as their entry in the London-Sydney Marathon. They also competed in several Dakar-Rallies and European Truck Race series. They were pioneers with continuously variable automatic transmission called Variomatic.

Their cabs and axle assemblies are produced at its Westerlo plant in Belgium. Some of the truck models sold with the DAF brand are designed and built by Leyland Trucks at their Farington plant in Leyland near Preston, England.
