DETROIT -- The 2018 Buick LaCrosse Avenir will start at $45,795 when it arrives at dealership showrooms by early February.
The price is 8.8 percent, or $3,700, above Buick's current top-tier LaCrosse Premium with the same 3.6-liter engine, which starts at $42,095. LaCrosse Avenir models with all-wheel drive will start at $47,995. All prices include $925 destination charges.
The Lacrosse is the second vehicle to feature the high-end touches that defineAvenir, Buick's new subbrand that executives launched last year to increase price range and push the brand more upscale -- similar to what Denali has done for GMC.
"Nine out of 10 LaCrosse buyers are choosing one of the top two trim levels -- customers are signaling they want more from Buick," Duncan Aldred, global vice president of Buick and GMC, said in a statement, when announcing the car in November.
The Avenir name debuted in the fall on Buick's redesigned 2018 Enclave. About 35 percent of sales for the midsize crossover have been Avenir, which has assisted in substantially increasing average transaction prices for the vehicle compared with the 2017 model, according to a company spokesman.
The premiums for the LaCrosse Avenir are similar to the Enclave Avenir's. The Enclave Avenir starts at $54,495, including shipping. That's an 11 percent, or $5,400, increase over the Premium model, Enclave's next-highest trim.
Like the Enclave Avenir, the LaCrosse Avenir has unique styling and additional standard features and premium materials. It also features Avenir badging and exclusive 19-inch Pearl Nickel or available 20-inch Midnight Silver wheels. The standard LaCrosse Avenir features include a 310-hp V-6 engine, nine-speed automatic transmission, navigation, Bose Centerpoint Surround Sound premium audio and a panoramic moonroof. Additional available features include ebony interior, intelligent twin-clutch awd and a suite of advanced safety features. The Avenir name -- it means "future" in French -- first appeared on a widely praised concept car at the 2015 Detroit auto show.
