Tesla Chill Mode Is ON

Tesla Chill Mode Is ON

Moving away from the ever-increasing acceleration boosts, Tesla has just released an over-the-air update for its electric vehicles. Instead of the tongue-in-cheek ultra-quick "Plaid" mode, the new 2017.44 update actually lets the driver increase just how long it takes to accelerate from 0-60.

According to Tesla owners who have gotten notifications about the update and are sharing the news on Reddit, the new, slower acceleration style is called "Chill," and Tesla reportedly says that, "Chill makes acceleration more gradual – ideal for smoother driving and a gentler ride for your passengers." Whether or not Chill Mode will make any noticeable difference in the car's overall range will be something we'll keep an eye on as people get to test out the new feature.

Tesla's history of acceleration upgrades have also had clever little names. First there was Insane, then Ludicrous, and then, in good Spaceballs fashion, a joke about "Plaid" speed. Depending on the model of Tesla you're talking about and the features, Ludicrous Mode could be good for a 0-60 acceleration of down to a blisteringly low time. Earlier this year, Motor Trend tested a 2017 Tesla Model S P100D and hit 60 miles per hour in just 2.28 seconds.

Chill Mode is not the only new feature in the 2017.44 update. There's also a new exit mode, which automatically moves the driver's seat and steering wheel and seat so that getting in and out of the car is easier. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Twitter in August that this feature would be coming to the company's electric cars.
