Renault S.A. is a French based automobile manufacturer often ranked among the top ten biggest automakers in the world by production volume. Established in 1899 by the Renault brothers, Louis, Marcel and Fernand Renault, the company sold its first car, the Renault Voiturette 1CV, in 1898. By 1903, they were manufacturing their own engines and had already patented first turbo in 1902. The Société des Automobiles de Place bought a good volume of Renault AG 1 to establish a taxi fleet in 1905.

With indisputable reputation in innovation and advanced technologies, the brand has an outstanding history in motorsports. The brothers had recognized the merit of publicity that motorsport had to offer for their vehicles and along with Marcel’s racing indulgence, Renault began participating and winning city-to-city races. Marcel was met with an unfortunate fate when his car crashed and he couldn’t survive the accident. Although his racing brother Louis never participated again, but his company did and went on to win the first Grand Prix motor racing event in a Renault AK 90CV in 1906. In the 70s, the brand setup a separate division called Renault Motorsport. They won the Le Mans 24 Hours and also succeeded in Formula 1 and rallying over the years.

Renault has various joint ventures, including Oyak-Renault (Turkey), Renault Pars (Iran). Renault’s latest venture is the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance 2020 making it the fourth largest automotive group in the world.
